Keep it Clean

Give Top SKU’s a Front Row Seat

Simply put, the less of it you sell, the further from the picking station it should be, and vice-versa. This can be especially important during peak high-volume seasons.

One methodology is to arrange inventory in groupings according to sales volume. For example, top sellers in Group 1 and closest to the main picking station, average sellers in Group 2 a bit further, and below average sellers in Group 3 located furthest from center.

As new SKU’s are introduced, consider periodically shifting the placement of top movers to increase the volume of shorter picking trips and minimize the volume of longer trips.

Utilize On Demand Warehousing

As sales grow and businesses expand, the need for more warehouse space may come sooner than expected. While this is a good problem to have, it is still a problem, and trying to figure out where to house growing inventory and how to fund a new facility can take time away from everyday operations.
